PRACTICAL
LIFE
This area
is considered to be the foundation of all other learning. Practical
life activities, including dressing oneself, cleaning up and being
courteous establish the fundamental tools for learning --coordination
of fine motor movements, organization, concentration, and independence.
Once a child shows an interest or ability, teachers at all levels encourage
children with these exercises.

SENSORY-MOTOR
Beautiful sensorial materials allow the child to refine visual discrimination
skills, such as with shapes, colors, sizes, textures, sounds and tastes.
These activities are engaging to children because they involve tactile
learning and develop motor skills. The Sensorial materials provide the
groundwork for the development of other skills such as music, math, and
language. LANGUAGE
Language learning materials help the children to develop verbal skills,
writing, reading and storytelling. Starting with basic language and vocabulary
building, as the child gets older, phonetic sounds are taught using sandpaper
letters, objects and pictures. MATHEMATICS
Mathematics in Montessori education starts with hands-on learning of
mathematical concepts, based on knowledge of concrete objects. As
children show an interest,
they are encouraged to develop mathematical concepts through daily living
activities. CULTURAL
AWARENESS
Children are introduced to the world and are fascinated with all the
different cultures of the Earth. As part of the goal to help children
learn to live
in harmony with all people and the environment, our cultural area includes
geography, zoology, botany and science.
